Belle de Pontoise is a heritage apple cultivar that originated in France (1869, introduced 1879). It was grown primarily for cooking.. Large flat-round apple. The U.S. Department of Agriculture documented it with a watercolour study (1860), painted by Amanda Almira Newton, as official botanical identification records made before colour photography.
