Rome Beauty Apple
Rome Beauty originated near Rome Township in Lawrence County, Ohio, around 1816, reportedly from a root sprout below a graft union on the Gillett family farm. A large, round, glossy red apple, it is mild-flavoured and best known as a baking apple that holds its shape when cooked. Its commercial popularity through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries is reflected in the USDA record.
