Claygate Pearmain Apple
Claygate Pearmain is a heritage apple cultivar that originated in Surrey, England (before 1821). It was grown primarily for eating. Suitable for northerly, cold, wet climates: rich, nutty flavor. The U.S. Department of Agriculture documented it with a watercolour study (1838), painted by William Henry Prestele, as official botanical identification records made before colour photography.
