Townsend is a heritage apple cultivar that originated in Pennsylvania, US (before 1785). It was grown primarily for eating. Stalk is long. The U.S. Department of Agriculture documented it with 2 watercolour studies (1840–1875), painted by Royal Charles b. Steadman and Deborah Griscom Passmore, as official botanical identification records made before colour photography.
